The ACFE Report of Nations has confirmed that 46% of all incidents of dishonesty, fraud and corruption are identified through whistleblowing. The next is Internal
audit at 16%. This is why most investigations usually start with an unsubstantiated allegation. When a Forensic investigator is appointed for an investigation, he/she must obtain a written mandate with a clearly defined scope of work. This can be done through an internal letter if the investigator is in-house or a letter of engagement for external investigators.
